The Movement is legally recognized as an entity by the 744/2012 Decision of the First Instance Court of Athens. The SEISACHTHEIA citizens committee, composed of 12 EU citizens from 8 different member states, submitted, on 13/7/2012, OFFICIAL request before the European Commission, according to the article 8 of the Lisbon Treaty. The citizens committee introduces the following resolution, for adoption:

Establish , as European Law, the Principle of the “state of necessity ”. When the financial and the political existence of a State is in danger because of the serving of the abhorrent debt (galloping unemployment; the collapse of wages and pensions; the closure of hospitals and schools, as well as of social services; individual wretchedness; etc.) the suspension/refusal of its payment is necessary and justifiable, until the country's recovery.
